Water Treatment & Water Distribution Divisions

The City of Oxford's Water Treatment Plant provides water to more than 22,500 customers, including Miami University, and a variety of other businesses.   Our City draws water from underground wells north and east of the City.  The source of the City's water is the Great Miami Buried Valley Aquifer.  This sand and gravel aquifer, formed by glaciers over 10,000 years ago, is one of the largest and most productive aquifer systems in the country.

The City of Oxford collects and analyzes water samples as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in an effort to ensure the highest possible quality of drinking water.  The City reports on the quality of its drinking water annually in its report known as the Consumer Confidence Report.  All water quality standards set forth by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) are met or exceeded.

The Water Distribution Division is responsible for maintaining approximately 91.58 miles of water main from 4 inches to 24 inches in diameter.  This includes repairing, tapping, installing the water mains; installation, repair, and performing an annual flushing program of the fire hydrants; and protecting the City's valves and water transmission mains.  The City provides a continuous water supply for domestic and commercial users and provides adequate water pressure and flow for fire protection.
