City staff will measure the snow to determine the 3" height. Oxford Police Division will notify the public via Nixle, and it will be posted as an alert on the city website homepage. This will alert the property owners when snow/ice needs to be cleared.

The 24-hour compliance period will NOT begin under the following conditions:
  • During an active snowfall. Staff will wait until the accumulation of snow has stopped to trigger the start of the 24-hour period.
  • Between the hours of 10 PM & 7 AM. If snow accumulates to 3 inches, but the snowfall stops between 10 PM and 7 AM, staff will wait until 7 AM to trigger the start of the 24-hour period.

City staff are assigned a quadrant within the targeted sidewalk enforcement area and will be directed to conduct an enforcement check after a qualifying snowfall. The targeted sidewalk enforcement area is made up of snow routes and U.S. 27.

Properties that fail to clear their sidewalks within the designated 24-hour period will have their sidewalks cleared by the City of Oxford's contractor.

Once the contractor has completed all sidewalk clearings, the City of Oxford's Finance Department will invoice all property owners for the amount to clear their sidewalk based upon the property's linear footage, plus a 40% administration fee.

If the property owner fails to pay or make arrangements with the Finance Department, the fines will be forwarded to the Butler County Auditor for assessment on the property owner's real property.
