Oxford Police Division
The Oxford Division of Police has been serving our community since 1810.
We employ:
- 30 FT Police Officers & 1 Part-Time Police Officer
- 6 FT & 3 PT Non-emergency Dispatchers
- 3 FT & 4 PT Animal Control/Parking Officers
We have a broad socioeconomic demographic with a total population of 26,500, and a large portion of that number is due to the influence of Miami University, located in Oxford. Qualifications
This classified position requires a written exam, oral interview, and physical agility test.
Requirements include:
- valid driver's license
- high school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's Degree preferred)
- U.S. Citizen with no felony convictions
- must be 20.5 years of age prior to the date of examination
Candidates must be able to pass:
- physical agility exam
- psychological evaluation
- background investigation
- truth verification examination
- pre-employment physical, which includes a vision test, hearing test, and a drug screen

Work Hours & Time-Off
- Work four 10-hour shifts/three days off each week
- 10 paid holidays each year

Paid Vacation Days by Years of Service:
- 1 to 5 years: 80 hours
- 2 to 10 years: 120 hours
- 11 to 15 years: 160 hours

City of Oxford Police Interest Form
1. Application
Click for current openings.
Select Law Enforcement and sign up for the City of Oxford Police Department. All applicants who take the test will be notified of their individual results. Applicants obtaining the minimum required score will be scheduled for the Physical Fitness Test.
The time and location for the physical fitness assessment will be provided after the application and written test phases have been completed. Police Division staff will administer the test, and applicants will be required to sign a waiver to participate. This test will be pass/fail and does not contribute to the overall ranking list. Candidates who fail will be removed from the eligibility list.
5. Interviews & Beyond
Candidates who are in the top five of the eligibility list will be interviewed and begin the background process. Additional interviews may be required. As candidates are excluded from the Eligibility List, the next viable candidates may be interviewed. Candidates are removed from the eligibility list after one year.
Conditional Offer of Employment
A recommendation for hire will be from the top five viable candidates on the Eligibility List. Once a conditional offer of employment is made, candidates will continue in the background process to include a polygraph examination, psychological exam, and medical exam.
Lateral Entry Details:
Candidates who are currently employed or have been employed within the past 365 days (as of the written test date), as a full-time police officer in Ohio will have the physical agility test waived and will start earning the the appropriate step level based upon their prior years of full-time service, provided that:
- The candidate has at least three years of full-time, continuous police officer experience and;
- The candidate has a current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certification.
