Student Volunteer Program
At its inception in 1833, the Oxford Fire Department was comprised of 36 volunteer service providers, serving 731 residents. Over the years, with the growth of Oxford, Miami University and the surrounding area, calls have dramatically increased. OFD gets over 3,000 calls a year. The Oxford Fire Department is comprised of Full-time, Part-time and Volunteer Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. Their dedication and commitment provides service 24 hours a day/7 days a week. You’ll be part of an elite crew of specially trained emergency responders.

Student Volunteer Duties and Requirements
You will be required to commit at least 24 hours per month on station where you will be paid per run and have the opportunity to train, make emergency calls, do building and pre-plan inspections and all the duties firefighters and EMTs do during their day. You’ll learn from the on-duty staff. During these hours, the Student Volunteer will participate as one of the crew. During downtime, the Student Volunteer will have access to the internet and the ability to study regular course work. When you complete the OFD Orientation Program and are a state certified Firefighter/EMT, you may become eligible to sign up for open part-time shifts (paid per hour) and apply for available permanent part-time positions.
