Mobile Food Preparation Vehicle Fire Inspection

An annual permit is required from the Oxford Fire Department(OFD) to operate a mobile food preparation vehicle (MFPV) within the City of Oxford. No other jurisdiction permit will be accepted in lieu of this permit. All MFPVs, including non-local ones, must obtain a permit before operating within the city limits. 

All inspections will be by appointment only. A permit fee of $75 must be paid in full before or at the time of the inspection. 

Fire Inspection Details:

  • Inspections will be available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
  • The OFD recommends that you have your inspection two weeks before the event to allow time to correct any deficiencies found.

We recommend that all MFPVs that plan on operating during this calendar year apply for their permit as soon as possible. After your application is submitted, the Oxford Fire Department will reach out to schedule the inspection and send the permit fee invoice. The OFD will keep these permits on file for the full calendar year.

After your MFPV Fire Inspection:

  • Keep your OFD MFPV permit certificate visible at all events within the City of Oxford.
  • OFD may perform random day-of inspections before events.
  • During the pre-event inspections, OFD will look at:
    • The MFPV, surrounding area, fire extinguisher(s) and fire suppression system(s). 
    • OFD will check that the kitchen exhaust hood is clean and up to date, that egress is clear, and that the generator is in a safe location. 
    • OFD will check that the vehicle is not parked where it would interfere with safety staff in the event of an emergency.   
    • Any other pertinent fire prevention or life safety related items.
  • OFD reserves the right to revoke any permit for any fire code violations noted in a day-of inspection. Code compliance must be maintained at all times when an MFPV is operated within city limits. Major violations may result in a minimum $500.00 fire citation.
  • MFPVs in operation must be the same MFPV that was inspected. VIN#s, SN#, ID#, and/or license plate will be cross referenced with permit information.
