Flood Plain Management

FEMA-based Flood Plain Management

FEMA-based Flood Plain Management is:

  • A nationwide program to guide development away from flood-risk areas
  • A tool to be aware of minimum requirements for development in and near flood hazard zones
  • A way to know whether you have access to subsidized flood insurance or not
  • A way to educate yourself about property before purchasing it or 1) Potential risks to life and property, and 2) Potential insurance premium requirements for mortgage-backed loans

FEMA-based Flood Plain Management is not:

  • A way to guarantee that a property will not flood
  • A surveyed boundary of flood limits
  • Updated annually to reflect changes to levees, roads and bridges that might alter flood conditions

Flood insurance can still be purchased even if a property is not in a flood hazard zone
