In September 2023, the City of Oxford adopted a Climate Action Plan titled, Towards a Sustainable, Resilient Future. This plan acts as a road map for our community to achieve carbon neutrality and to ensure Oxford remains a thriving place despite the changing climate.
Our planning process:
In February of 2022, City Staff and the Climate Action Steering Committee began developing the Climate Action Plan by evaluating our greenhouse gas inventory, our climate-related vulnerabilities, and other municipal climate action plans. Oxford’s plan was shaped by the community input gathered through the robust Oxford Tomorrow planning process, an additional public input session hosted on April 15th, 2023, feedback from boards and commissions, and online comments from publically posted drafts. Expertise and feedback from community partners, such as Miami University, Butler County Solid Waste District, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, were used to establish ambitious but achievable goals. Lastly, staff input was considered to ensure that included actions are feasible while maintaining service excellence and fiscal responsibility.
