Historic preservation in Oxford begins with community.
Whether it’s a 19th century log cabin, a historic author’s home, or a Freedom Summer Memorial, these places are silent witnesses to the history of the City of Oxford and to its people’s lives and cultures. These sites are tangible connections between past and present.
Through the process of designating and protecting new and existing districts and landmarks, the City, alongside the Historic and Architectural Preservation Committee (HAPC), works with community members to promote the aesthetic, cultural, and economic strength of Oxford. Through historic preservation, the City seeks to cultivate a built environment that reflects Oxford’s unique character and history.
