City of Oxford launches Online Permitting Center

Friday, April 20, 2018

The Community Development Department announces the launch of the Online Permitting Center, a modern, easy-to-use service that will allow you to apply for permits online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from a web browser. You will receive email notifications throughout the process and you will be able to monitor your application status online. After all departments review and approve the application and plans, you will pay over the phone or in person at the Municipal Building. Eventually we will offer the ability to pay online.

Community Development staff and National Inspection Corporation (NIC) employees have been working to simplify processes as we have been building out the Online Permitting Center. We have been listening to feedback from contractors, applicants, and other City staff members about our processes. This feedback prompted us to review each step of the permit process, from the initial application to the final inspections. As such, we customized the online forms and workflows to the types of work you are doing, with the intention of removing much of the “guess work” involved with getting a permit. Therefore, the Online Permitting Center may ask for more information up front than we have asked for in the past, but it should reduce the amount of time to acquire a permit and reduce correspondence between the applicant and reviewers.

You will still be able to apply for permits at the Municipal Building, but we encourage everyone to start using the Online Permitting Center when possible.
