New residential rental smoke detector requirements for 2017

Smoke detectors save lives!

The current Oxford Property Maintenance Code requires a photoelectric smoke detector in each bedroom and a photoelectric smoke detector outside of each sleeping area. Also, it requires a photoelectric and ionization smoke detector on each level of the dwelling unit. This may be a combined one or two separate ones (photoelectric and ionization).

Please make certain you meet this requirement at each of your rental properties. Also, let the City of Oxford or NIC (the City’s property inspection contractor) know if you have any questions on this important fire safety requirement.

Thank you,
