This is not a comprehensive list of all fines for all offenses, but it covers the citations most often issued for problems in the community. The following information pertains to citations issued by police officers for infractions of the law.
These citations are paid at Area I Court, 118 West High Street, Oxford. The telephone number is 523-4748. Office hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. For after hours payments, there is a drop box in front of the court house.
Furniture not manufactured for outdoor use:
A minor misdemeanor on a first offense, Maximum fine of $100 plus $105 court costs.
Each subsequent offense is a fourth degree misdemeanor, Maximum fine of $250 plus $105 court costs and up to 30 days in jail.
Bicycles prohibited on sidewalks:
$10 plus $105 court costs.
Excessive Noise:
Minor Misdemeanor, Maximum fine of $100 plus $105 court costs.
A second offense committed within one (1) year after the commission of the first offense, a fourth degree misdemeanor; for a third and/or subsequent offenses committed within one (1) year after the commission of the first offense, a third degree misdemeanor.
Allowing Litter to remain or Trash cans to remain:
Minor Misdemeanor, Maximum fine of $100 plus $105 court costs.
Alcohol:
- Open Container: Minor Misdemeanor, Maximum fine of $100 plus $105 court costs.
- Possession of a fake ID: Certain Acts Prohibited, First degree misdemeanor, Maximum fine of $1000 plus $105 court costs and up to 6 months in jail.
- Purchase and/or Possess Underage: First degree misdemeanor, Maximum fine up to $1,000 plus $105 court costs and up to 6 months in jail.
If you are a member of an organization or a fraternity at which a party is being thrown and you are cited for an offense such as Noise, Litter, or Alcohol, the organization/fraternity can be cited as well. This is an Organizational Liability Citation. The maximum fine for such a citation is dependent on the nature of the violation. For example, if the organization is being charged with a litter violation, a litter violation is a minor misdemeanor and based on the fine schedule below, the maximum fine would be $1000. Organizations are encouraged to be responsible members of the community with regard to quality of life issues.

Code Enforcement
